EAGLES SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE UNDER 13 BOYS MATCH REPORTS FOR 21.11.2009

The match started with very impressive defence from the young Eagles. During the first 3 minutes of the game the Dragons, a team with three players over 6”1, didn’t manage to score a single basket seeing the Eagles start on a 12 v 0 run. That changed when all five Eagles court players were exchanged and the Dragons managed to put a run of there own together. The first quarter finished with the result 16:7 in favour of the Eagles. The second quarter saw quite a nervous start from both sides but the Eagles managed to increase their lead to 28:11 by half time. In the first minutes of the third quarter the Dragons started using their height to their advantage and scored 8 consecutive points while the Eagles were scoreless. That soon changed when the Eagles tightened up their defence leading to their exciting fast break game. The quarter ended 41:22 in favour of the Eagles. The last quarter saw fairly balance game in which the Eagles played good defence and put effort into a more organised attack. However, the slower game suited the Dragons as they could better utilise their height advantage. The match finished 57:36. It wasn’t a great performance by the young Eagles however certain bench players impressed on the defensive end.

The match started in a rather unsettled manner for Eagles that saw York Eagles taking an early lead of 4:0. The Eagles tightened their defence and soon took a slight advantage. During the rest of the quarter both teams were fairly balanced, by the end of the quarter the score was 10:7 in favour of the Eagles. The second quarter started slow with both teams scoring just 2 baskets each, in the first two minutes. It was a very nervous game with lots of turnovers and unlike the Eagles a lot of missed lay-ups. The Eagles managed to pick up their scoring in the middle of the quarter and increased their lead to 22:11 by the half. At the beginning of the second half the Vikings upped their game and reduced the Eagles advantage to only 8 points. This led to another period in which almost no baskets were scored for few minutes. During this time the Eagles played good defence but lost a lot of possessions to a series of travels, carries and more missed lay-ups. During the last few minutes the Eagles managed to convert there steals into points seeing the quarter finish 32:20 to the Eagles. The forth period again started very slow with missed lay-ups and poor decision making form the young Eagle guards; in the first 4 minutes there were only two baskets (one for each team). The Eagles picked up their defensive intensity with special attention on the Viking’s best player. The match finished 42:27 and although the coach was happy with the results he was very disappointed with the performance and the manner of victory. The young Eagles agreed that the performance wasn’t their best and were prepared to improve in the forth coming training sessions.
